It should work quite nicely, those are all good name brand parts you have there. One thing I should mention is that with the AM3 Processors it's generally advised to go with 4GB or 8GB, while with the i7 it's 6GB. Of course, DDR3 costs 2x for negligible gains anyway, but it is more "future proof" too. I think that you will like your system.

Thanks! I'll probably grab another 2gb of ram then just to be safe. Does it need to be exactly the same as the other 6gb(as far as brand)?

It is best to have the exact same memory in each slot - however the most important thing is to have the same type (ie a 2GB DIMM of DDR3 1600 or whatever), the same brand would be worth it too imo.

Instead of buying Vista, you should probably wait for Windows7. I think you can even get a beta version now and upgrade to retail later. Or you could just install an older XP until Win7 goes retail.
And, if you are going to install a 56k modem, you may as well add a floppy while your at it.

I have to have the modem cause this will be at my parents house till their new computer is there and they only have dial-up. As for waiting for windows 7, I get the coupon for the free upgrade, so when it comes out I'll get it anyways.

Well I got it all together and working. I'll take some pics tonight of it. Everything seems to be doing fine. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should look at before I do to much on it?I've checked my CPU temps and they stay right around 46-48C and around 29C at idle. Does this seem right/ok? Also, I'm wondering what internet security program would be best, any suggestions? Thanks!

Well if you are buying it i would say Kaspersky AntiVirus 2010. You can also download cracked versions of it, but you will need to add new keys every month or so.
If not AVG Pro cracked works fine too.
There's always norton, but it's heavey.
The temperatures on your machine are fine as they are

Those are good temps for the CPU, AMD stock cooling is quite reliable and offers decent performance as well (as shown here). I'd download everest ultimate and run a stress test for a few hours, just to check, or throw a high powered video game in there and stress test it the old fashioned and more fun way.
For internet security I would steer clear of the big name brands that Joe Sixpack uses (ie Norton, McAfee.....) If you "must" pay for it I would use CA or Kaperspky - but really, why pay when you can get just as good or better for free? I suggest you use, Avast, Avira, or AVG - in that order. I use Avast on every PC I have worked on or built in the last 2.5-3 years and it's not let me down yet.

Free is always good with me it's just my personal computer, no work related items or anything. I'll try out Avast, thanks! I'll run Everest Ultimate tonight and see how she does. thanks!
